    superette upper street islington

If there's one sector that appears to have thrived in London over the past year, it's the city's deli and food store scene. Having to stay at home and cook for ourselves has made Londoners all the more appreciative of the great places selling us provisions.

We popped down to check out Islington's new Superette store at the weekend, and were suitably impressed. The shop, from the team behind popular North London

And now we have the answer - Stoke Newington's Yield has opened a second location just off Highbury Corner.

It's taken the place of an

Casey's cafe & deli has reopened in its new Clapton digs

Casey's in Clapton used to describe itself as "a microcafe & deli". But now that they've moved into grander premises, maybe that 'micro' tag isn't needed anymore.

As owner Caitlin Dempsey said of their new shop which opened last week on Lower Clapton Road, named after her family shop back in Ireland, "it's an actual bakery/shop/cafe you can walk around and buy things, if you want."

There's no getting away from the fact that lockdown was hard on London. But, equally, it's fair to say that some businesses coped better than others. Highbury restaurant Top Cuvee didn't let any grass grow under its feet when the city shut down. It pivoted quickly to become a natural wine distributor Shop Cuvee - actually growing its business over lockdown.

Now that owner Brodie and his team have been able to reopen the restaurant,

  • Michelin-starred Kitchen Table reinvents itself as a deli

kitchen table deli opens in Fitzrovia

Yesterday's announcement by the government that restaurants could reopen was welcome news to many. But not all restaurants fit even the 1m plus rule. One such place is Kitchen Table. The two Michelin-starred restaurant in Fitzrovia is all about the counter dining experience - and that's clearly going to take them a little longer to work out how to reopen safely.

So what does one of London's top restaurants do in the meantime?

  • Lina Stores, the 75-year-old Italian Soho stalwart, launches its online deli

Lina Stores, the 75-year-old Italian Soho stalwart, launches its online deli

They were open in Soho for over 75 years before the lockdown hit, but that isn't keeping Lina Stores down. If you've been missing one of London's top Italian delis, the news that they've re-opened as an online-only shop should certainly help.
