The Guinea Grill has been a London steak institution since 1952 and it's still going strong, particularly under the leadership of landlord Oisin Rogers. Expect perfectly cooked steaks in an old school setting and a breakfast menu that'll set you up for days.

This is the restaurant that catapulted Tomos Parry (now heading up Brat) to fame, while signalling the reinvigoration of the restaurant scene on Shepherd Market. It's a teeny, but romantic space.

This restaurant is from the people behind NYC's Ai Fiori and London's 101 Pimlico Road. It's a casual restaurant and is aiming for a neighbourhood vibe, despite its very West End location. The menu is divided into sections called "jars", "planks" and "crocks". Alongside this, there will be "steaks and chops" and the Chop Shop short rib steak sandwich as well as their special burger.

Taking over the old site of Titanic is this Modern American SteakHouse which hails from Denmark. The original is in Copenhagen and should offer an American steakhouse with "a twist of Danish informal eating and drinking". The menu offers the usual wide range of steaks while veal sweetbreads, foie gras terrine and salmon ceviche standing out among the starters.

One of the biggest Hawksmoors of the standout steak group, this one has great views over Regent Street and also places a special focus on seafood dishes created by fish maestro Mitch Tonks. It's a big old room too, seating up to 235.

Mark Hix is back in force in East London with this huge new restaurant featuring a menu based around chicken and steak. Look out for the enormous Damien Hirst "cock and bull" as you enter.

Everything that Hawksmoor does turns to restaurant gold and this restaurant is no exception. Things kick off with a proper breakfast for City folk and the whole thing is housed in an incredible looking basement room. You'll find their usual great steaks, cocktails and more.

Wolfgang Puck made his fortune serving gourmet pizzas to Hollywood's elite. It's currently his only European restaurant - part of the Dorchester Collection. Steaks are the focus here as well as plenty of interesting salads for the stars to push around their plates.

Located in the old Watney-Combe brewery, complete with original vaulted brick ceiling, the new Hawskmoor restaurant looks as though it's been down this narrow Covent Garden street forever. There's also a private dining room for up to 14 people and a bar where you can pop in for 'a casual burger and beer'.

Mark Hix's restaurant does what it says on the tin - serving up super fresh seafood and quality cuts of meat. The dining room is pretty small, making this perhaps the cosiest place in Hix's restaurant empire.
