28/1/17 - updated with opening date
The original L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele in Naples is an extremely well-regarded pizzeria - Daniel Young (author of where to eat pizza) puts it on his top 20 list in the world. So there's very good news that they're bringing it to London - settling on Stoke Newington as a home. We caught up with them to find out a little more about the opening.
Marco Condurro, the son of the Director of L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele (Michele Condurro) will be coming over in the run-up and for the launch just to make sure the pizzas match the Naples originals. And their four pizzaioli will be coming at the beginning of September and have all been trained and have worked in the pizzeria in Naples. So you can expect something pretty authentic here.
For the pizzas, expect the traditional Margherita and Marinara (as per the Neapolitan model) - those will be the main attractions, and they're adding two specials which they'll rotate from time to time. As for drinks, expect wines from Mastroberardino in Campania, Peroni and more.
So it looks like Stoke Newington is the place to watch for pizza lovers.
L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele opens at 125 Stoke Newington Church Street, London N16 0UH on 3 February 2017. There are no reservations but you can book for tables of 6 or more on 020 7687 0009. For more, follow them on Twitter @damichelelondon.
