For the past few years, the craft alcohol market has been all but monopolised by beer, so it’s refreshing news that east London has just seen the opening of a new craft wine bar from two Tuscan brothers. Pomaio will feature wines from small, independent vineyards producing biodynamic, organic wine in the heart of Italy’s wine country.
Not only will there be plenty of classic whites and reds on offer, but also orange wines (those tannic white made with grapes that have the skins left on). The list will include bottles of Chianti Classico Riserva il Poggio 2006 and Podere di Pomaio's Porsenna IGT Sangiovese 2011.
Small plate options will be on hand to accompany your tipples, with Tuscan delicacies like bruschetta with truffle, quails egg and prosciutto to start. For mains, you’ll be able to try the traditional polenta served with stewed wild boar, or chianina beef with spicy squid couscous, and cheesecake made with a cantucci biscotti base for pudding. Best downed with a rocket-fuel strength espresso, naturally.
