It's been a long time, but, US burger chain Wendy's is back on these shores - and opening in London too. They originally opened in Reading but their first London restaurant is Stratford Shopping Centre (note, not Westfield, the other one) - the opening salvo of their re-entry to London. It's been almost 20 years since they were last here (their flagship store was where the McDonald's is on Oxford Street now).
If you're unfamiliar with Wendy's, they're best known for their burger patties being square as opposed to round, and they're essentially a large fast-food chain - more McDonald's than Patty & Bun.
Sadly we won't be getting their Pretzel Bacon Pub Triple burger, but there will be some UK specials, like the Veggie Stack along with burgers like their Baconator and Dave’s Single (plus double, plus triple) and their classic Baked Potatoes with toppings like sour cream and chive or bacon and chili and cheese.
The queues at the opening have been round the block but if you've been eagerly awaiting the return, now's the time to head to Stratford.
There are more Wendy's around the corner, of course. Alongside Stratford, the Croydon location we hear that they're currently looking for planning permission for will be in a former Barclays branch just a few hundred metres from East Croydon station.
