Over the course of two days last October, top London bartender and bar owner Ryan Chetiyawardana caused quite a storm on the London bar scene when he announced the closure of the hugely popular Dandelyan in the same week as it took the No 1 slot in the World's Best Bars list.
Now he's revealing more about what he has planned for the space's next incarnation. In an exclusive interview with Drinks International Ryan said the new look bar would be renamed Lyaness.
"The Dandelyan team will be at the heart of what we’re doing," he told the trade title. "That’s what the name Lyaness relates to. Lionesses are the leaders, the hunters, the badasses – that’s what we’ll be focusing on. We want to sharpen it up, give it an edge, increase the energy and buzz. That means the décor has to change. It will have a different character. The team will have a new space to shine – a new platform. It won’t have the same concept as Dandelyan but it will remain a cocktail bar.”
And it's not all that's changed at Sea Containers. Formerly the hotel was a Mondrian, and now it's just joined new independent hotel group Lore and the whole hotel is now simply called Sea Containers. The restaurant downstairs remains much the same - but the Rumpus Room on the roof (with its great rooftop terrace) is now called 12th Knot. The main Tom Dixon design of the hotel will stay the same - but expect a lot of other changes in the coming months.
And there's still time to try Dandelyan before it closes in March. We also recently popped by to try their latest cocktail menu.
