The London Jukebox is coming to Islington with world music and Indian food

What: The London Jukebox

In a nutshell: World music and Indian food in Islington

Summing it all up: The London Jukebox runs world music concerts in London and now they're settling on Upper Street. Expect small music events paired with Indian sharing plates.

The low-down

There's been a lot of change around Islington recently - and the latest is London Jukebox. It's coming to Islington's Upper street replacing Sen Nin, taking over a big corner site.

If you haven't heard of London Jukebox before, it's because until now they've been primarily music promoters. Specialising in World music, they've set up concerts all over town, including Islington. This will be their first permanent venue, billed as an intimate venue where they will "represent a breadth and depth of music from startup singer-songwriters to string ensembles and jazzy swings."

And the Upper Street site is specifically about mixing music and food - so Indian sharing platters will be on offer, including:

  • Jeera Chicken - Dry chicken thighs in a spicy jeera (cumin) coating served with a flatbread
  • Lamb Chops - Spicy sizzling chops infused with ginger green chillies and dry spices
  • Kaati Rolls - paneer (V) or lamb kebab in a roll, lined with fried egg salad and spices
  • Sev Puri -  Crispy flat puris lined with the sweet tamarind and coriander chutney a dash of garlic yoghurt topped with potatoes onions and sev
  • Mrs Suud’s Breadrolls (V) - "From a nostalgic trip to a Bombay school canteen where Mrs Suud fed hundreds of hungry kids at snack time - spicy potato filling wrapped in bread and deep fried served with a sweet tamarind chutney"
  • Chili Garlic Mogo From the East African diaspora, this favourite fusion of African cassava chips spiced with garlic and crushed green chillies (V)
